Endless Sleep

from 3 EP LP by Broken Bear

/

about

A melancholy waltzy track underpinned with acoustic guitar. Inspired by an article on resignation syndrome which detailed a psychiatric disorder of children and teens (often in war zones) in which they fall into a deep sleep from which none of them have woken.

lyrics

She just lay perfectly still
Eyes closed apparently peaceful
She looked serene in a dream
Like the princess who’d eaten the apple

The only sign of life
The gentle up and down of her chest

I could see only the soles of her feet
In the twilight
Of the dark room
The curtains pulled tight on a sunny afternoon

Nobody could wake them from endless sleep
Nobody could wake them

She’s still aware that it’s daytime
She still needs sun on her skin
She spoke less and less
Withdrew into herself
’til she didn’t speak at all

Could no longer eat
Or open her eyes
An absence of feeling
With no will to fight

Nobody could wake them from endless sleep
Nobody could wake them from endless sleep
Nobody could wake them from endless sleep
Nobody could wake them
